[November 26 to December 7, 2007]. I hold an ACCAM after completing a course which is held in conjunction with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA). This course introduces medical practitioners to the medical aspects of civil aviation in Australia. It was held at The Alfred Hospital, Melbourne Australia. Again, I should say thanks to ADS who allowed me to take this specialised course.
Medical doctors who have completed the course can register with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority as Designated Aviation Medical Examiners, and are then qualified to medically examine pilots and air traffic controllers as fit for work.
Airline medical staff from Emirates and other international airlines also complete the course. This course includes:
- The flight environment
- Altitude, pressure cabins, oxygen equipment
- Thermal stress
- Spatial disorientation
- Human factors in aviation
- Air traffic services
- Clinical Aviation Medicine
- Cardiology
- Respiratory Medicine
- Drugs and alcohol
- Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology
- Neurology
- Passenger fitness to fly
- Civil Aviation Medical Certification
- Aviation accident investigation
- Practical Sessions
- Hypoxia experience/Barany Chair
- Eye examination/audiometry.
What’s interesting is that the opportunity to visit Air Services Australia at Tullamarine and also the opportunity to experience Boeing 747 flight simulator.
The course coordinator is Dr David Newman MBBS, DipAvMed, PhD.

I’d like to convey my thanks, I’m a nurse and I have never worked abroad. Could you give me some information about aviation nursing course, particularly for emergency in-flight handling? Thanks. Regards.

The degree is ACCAM and can be used to apply Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) in Australia but not sure whether it is recognised in Indonesia. I don’t have information about SpKP in Indonesia either, please inform me if you have one…
