avmedi.jpg[November 26 to December 7, 2007].  I hold an ACCAM after completing a course which is held in conjunction with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA). This course introduces medical practitioners to the medical aspects of civil aviation in Australia. It was held at The Alfred Hospital, Melbourne Australia. Again, I should say thanks to ADS who allowed me to take this specialised course.

Medical doctors who have completed the course can register with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority as Designated Aviation Medical Examiners, and are then qualified to medically examine pilots and air traffic controllers as fit for work.

Airline medical staff from Emirates and other international airlines also complete the course. This course includes:

  • The flight environment
  • Altitude, pressure cabins, oxygen equipment
  • Thermal stress
  • Spatial disorientation
  • Human factors in aviation
  • Air traffic services
  • Clinical Aviation Medicine
  • Cardiology
  • Respiratory Medicine
  • Drugs and alcohol
  • Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology
  • Neurology
  • Passenger fitness to fly
  • Civil Aviation Medical Certification
  • Aviation accident investigation
  • Practical Sessions
  • Hypoxia experience/Barany Chair
